I began my professional writing career as a business journalist. I started at MarketWatch, where my story on whether Nostradamus predicted the 9/11 terrorist attacks crashed the website (spoiler alert: he didn’t). My after-hours trading column typically ranked as a Top 10 most-read story on the site.
I then joined Reuters, covering everything from the stock markets to IPOs (hey there, Google!) to retail titans, like Wal-Mart and Target. I became a regular weekend contributor to MSNBC, discussing shopping trends, hot holiday toys, and the fallout of the Great Recession. A highlight of my print reporting was a story I wrote with my colleague Lisa Baertlein, Midnight in the food-stamp economy. Salon called it a definitive story on the emerging food stamp economy.
From journalism, I jumped to content marketing, joining the social media team at iShares (owned by BlackRock) in 2011. iShares was one of the first large asset managers to launch a blog and dive into social media. Our team was headed by a leader who encouraged us to experiment with blogging, videos, and social media. The result? The iShares blog was repeatedly named #1 asset manager blog by kasina. In addition to writing and editing for the iShares blog, I also led development of the content launch strategy for the BlackRock Facebook page and the BlackRock blog. Now, they run as one cohesive blog – BlackRock Blog.
Today, I work as a content marketer. Through my work with SuperScript Marketing, I focus on financial services clients that run the gamut from fintech startups to the world’s largest asset managers. Blogging is my main gig, but I also help clients with SEO, social media, website copywriting, news articles, and emails.
